The First Month

1 Month Old

Wow! I can't believe it's actually already been a month since Mia was born. I still remember the feeling the day she was born, the anticipation of the 9 months, the awe I was in when I heard my little miracle first cry. So many days waiting for her, she's finally here, and it really is an amazing experience.

So sleep deprivation...hmm...everyone says that having a baby is hard. Specifics? I'm super tired. It's been a month of running on 4-6 hours of sleep a day. Trying to sleep when baby sleeps is also not very realistic. I still gotta eat, shower, clean and do laundry. Do I skip some of these things sometimes? OH YEA. If I get a nap, it would only be one and close to bed time. So far, having a baby is a full time job. She is also starting to be awake more ...both day and night. She is starting to get fussier now and it's hard sometimes to guess what she wants, but we are working at it. TRUTH TIME: It is tiring and demanding, but looking at her little face makes it all worth it. We love her so much!

Mia likes:
:) Car ride, she will sleep the whole time.
:) To sleep on my chest and Wyatt's chest.
:) To eat every 2-3 hours.
:) To be in arms most of the time.
:) Being burped. She will fall asleep this way easy too.
:) To cuddle.
:) Her pacifier...didn't think we would end up giving her one but oh well...oh and she has a favorite brand: MAM only please!
:) To smile, even if it's her sleep...we'll take it!
:) Sleeping on her parent's bed. We are co-sleeping for the sake of getting sleep ourselves. She has slept on her craddle and pack n play during the day...but for some reason at night, she wakes up right away.
:) Her swing...lifesaver sometimes!

Mia dislikes:
:( Getting in her carseat, sometimes getting out.
:( Baths...sometimes.
:( Getting her diaper changed when it's cold.
:( To spit up (afterfeeding).
:( Potty, she will struggle but when she does, she is a lot less fussy!
:( Being too warm.

Bella Photography Pics- Day 2

Bella Photography Pics- Day 2 of life

Mia is here!!!!!

WELCOME TO THE WORLD!

took my Week 39 picture on Sunday 14th. It was actually taken by my bff Jessica Barrozo who was visiting for the weekend. She joined me on many walks (park, mall, Ross lol) and we all had a great time.

That night Wyatt and I went to our class "Growing kids with God" at our church and afterwards discussed with our friends how we hoped she would be here soon. I was having some discomfort on my back and was actually able to time them every 7-8 minutes at one point. But they were so light I wasn't sure if they were contractions, the pain was mostly my back and I could ignore them if I stood up and walked around. So that night I went to bed thinking they either go away or will get stronger but I couldn't sleep, I was texting my little brother Kevin for a bit then dozed off.

Woke up at around 4 am and I felt the pain on my back again but stronger so I started to time them..but I was tired and I just hugged Wyatt every time I felt it and tried to go back to sleep but couldn't. He woke up to go to work and we discussed again that if it was time to call him and he would head home right away. So after he was gone for about 15 mins I went back to bed and felt a "contraction" (pain on my back) and actually felt a pop in my tummy. So I googled it and found that it could be my water breaking so I got excited. I got up but nothing...a few more steps and got ready to potty and sure enough! So I called Wyatt who did not pick up, called the base and let the dispatcher know my water broke. Called mom and she said she was on her way. Called the doctor's office who said "ok go to labor and delivery!" and then Wyatt called me and started asking me how it was and as the contractions got stronger I told him to just head home, to hurry and be careful. I picked up the last few things I needed to put in a bag (diaper and hospital bag were already in the car) and "tried" to pick up the apartment a little bit. Washed my face, brushed my teeth, did a little dance and when Wyatt got home, we went straight to labor and delivery!

We got there at almost 7am and parked and I was able to walk to the door (pain was still not awful). We got there and they put me in a room and we go comfortable. They tested for amniotic fluid before they did a cervical check and that took a while. At around 9am they did the cervical check and I was dilated 4cm. At around 9:30 am they broke my water some more to speed up the process. By this time my contractions were horrible, still all on my back and I was not able to breath through them. I got the epidural which was not bad at all. The contractions were way more painful and I was having a hard time holding still. But this was me after the Epi:

So I was still feeling the contractions on my left side but they were not horrible and I liked that I could still feel something to know when to push. At around 10am I was dilated 6cm, by noon I was dilated 8cm, and at 2pm I started pushing. Took a couple of hours (she was facing sideways which made it difficult for her to come out). In the meantime I relaxed, Wyatt ate, and we talked some about how excited we were. I swear Wyatt was almost jumping from joy, we were so happy the time was finally here.

It was hard, the pushing, exhausting!! But I tried with all my might and the midwife said I could not be doing a better job. It was beautiful, the whole thing. When she came out, I could not hold back the tears, a miracle just happened, my little miracle! Daddy cut the cord:

She was born at 4:05pm weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces and 20 inches long. She was put in my arms and Wyatt and I just stared at her and we had a great bonding experience. This is me first holding her:

Her after getting checked by the pediatrician:

Breastfeeding for the first time:

WELCOME BABY MIA,
DADDY AND I LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER IMAGINE.

From baby2see.com:

Week Thirty Eight: Development is complete

You are 38 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 36 weeks)
  • Baby is about 20 inches (51 cm) and weighs about 7.5 pounds (3.4 kilograms).
  • The soft down, which covered the body throughout the pregnancy, is now disappearing.
  • The body fat is continuing to build up, baby putting on about 1oz (28 grams) a day.
  • The wrinkled skin is becoming 'baby' smooth.
  • The baby may have reached its final birth position.
  • Most babies are born head first with only about 3 percent coming out feet first.
  • About one in eight births are caesarean.
Development is complete, baby's main job is to gain weight. The body continues laying on the fat stores at a rate of about an ounce (28 grams) a day, that will help regulate his or her body temperature after birth. The amniotic fluid, this is approximately equal to 4 or 5 cups. It doesn't sound like much, but just wait until your water breaks, it will feel like much more.

Baby may have a full head of hair now, an inch or more long, but some babies are born with only peach fuzz. Speaking of hair, most of the downy coat of lanugo that covered your baby for weeks has disappeared, but you may see some on the upper back and shoulders when he or she arrives. Almost gone has most of the vernix caseosa, the whitish substance that also covered baby.

Your baby will swallow the lanugo and exterior coating, along with other secretions, and store them in their bowels. These will become your infant's first bowel movement, a blackish waste called meconium. Your child's intestines are accumulating lots of meconium. About 30% of babies move their bowels before birth. Usually this is a sign that the baby is under some stress and can cause pneumonia if the baby inhales any amniotic fluid with meconium in it. If there are signs of meconium in the amniotic fluid at birth your care provider will make sure that the baby's throat and lungs are suctioned thoroughly.

This week, your baby weighs around seven and a half pounds and measures about 20 inches (51cm) head to toe. You are almost at the end of your pregnancy. Your weight should not increase much from this point. It should remain between 25 and 35 pounds (11.5 and 15.5 kg) until delivery.

from baby2see.com

Week Thirty Seven: Pregnancy is considered 'at term'

You are 37 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 35 weeks)
  • Typically, baby now measures 19.5 inches (50 cm) from the head to the heel.
  • Baby weighs up to 7 pounds or 3 kilograms.
  • The head diameter is over 3.5 inches (9cm).
  • The water could break at any time.
  • If it does happen, see a doctor immediately.
Gaining one ounce per day, your baby is growing rapidly. Keep up those exercises, especially your Kegels. Keeping your pelvic floor muscles toned will aid in a quicker recovery from the birth. An elbow, foot or head may protrude from your stomach when baby stretches and squirms about. Soon, as the wall of your uterus and your abdomen stretch thinner and let in more light, your baby will begin to develop daily activity cycles.

Even though you are three weeks from your due date, you are now considered 'at term'. In most cases, nothing will be done to stop your labour once it starts, even if it is before your 40th week. You may notice a bit more vaginal discharge and/or cervical mucus.

If you go into labor at this point your careprovider may not try to stop it.
So what are the signs that your labor may be starting?
  • Regular contractions that grow longer, stronger and closer together.
  • Contractions that are not affected significantly by a change in your activity level.
  • A trickle or gush of fluid from your vagina.
  • A regular, rhythmic backache.
If you have any of these signs, contact your doctor/careprovider immediately.
Fewer than 5% of births occur on the due date; 50% of births are within a week of the due date, and almost 90% within 2 weeks.

Best moment this week: Getting the nursery together :D It's so cute in her room and I still need some decor but it's pretty much ready for her! Pics will be up soon :) Doc appt went fine last week, everything seems to be going K, OK :)

Miss Anything? Just the little things (like being able to breathe without working at it and not being so tired all the time) but I can't believe my pregnancy is almost over...will I miss it? We'll see lol
Movement: yes mostly wiggles but she likes to wake me up in the a.m. with kicks haha getting me ready I guess
Food cravings: just fruit and sweets :) Wyatt made me muffins today, yeay!
Anything making you queasy or sick: random stuff and smells

From baby2see.com

Week Thirty Six: Baby may drop into the birth canal

You are 36 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 34 weeks)
  • The baby is about 19 inches (48 cm) long.
  • Weight is around 6 pounds (2.7 kg).
  • The baby's body is becoming chubby as fat layers build.
  • Between now and birth they may gain about an ounce (30g) a day
  • You may feel contractions of the womb, called Braxton Hicks contractions.
While it says that your baby weighs six and a half pounds this week and measures 19 inches long, this is only an estimate. In general, babies are gaining half a pound (225 grams) per week now. Baby continues gaining weight as fat deposits and is forming creases in the neck and wrists.

You may feel contractions of the womb, called Braxton Hicks contractions, which can be used to perform and practice breathing exercises. You may be visiting your caregiver weekly up until the birth. Regular internal exams may begin, to see if your cervix has softened, thinned, dilated or if your baby's head is dropping into the pelvis. Any of these could be signs of impending labor but there are no guarantees and you could be waiting for weeks yet. Your baby is almost ready, a pair of kidneys and the liver has begun processing some waste products, the only organ still to mature is the lungs.

This week your baby may drop into the birth canal, this is called 'lightening' or 'dropping'. If this is not your first baby, this 'lightening' may not occur until right before labor. Your care provider may refer to it by saying that your baby is now 'engaged'. The majority of babies are now in the birth position, either head down (vertex) or butt down (breech), most will maintain this position until birth. Any movements that they make are more likely to be rolls from side to side. You may notice when this happens because it will suddenly become much easier for you to breathe. While breathing becomes easier, walking may be the exact opposite. If your baby has dropped you may find yourself visiting the bathroom much more often as baby is resting right on top of your bladder again.

Keep talking - by now he or she can recognize you voice, and may respond to any loud noises with a swift kick out.

The average twin birth occurs between 36 and 37 weeks and the babies weigh an average of 5 pounds apiece. A baby's average size is now 18.5 inches (47 cm) and 6 pounds (2700 g).

From baby2see.com

Week Thirty Five: Reflexes are coordinated

You are 35 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 33 weeks)
  • Your baby is now about 18.5 inches in length and weighs over 5.5 pounds.
  • Baby is about 47cm crown to heel and weighs almost 2.7 Kg.
  • The body of your baby is growing round due to developing fat layers.
  • Your baby's reflexes are coordinated.
  • Lungs are almost fully developed.
  • About 90% of babies born this week survive.
Most babies gain about half pound per week in the last month of pregnancy. Fat stores accumulate in the legs and arms. These layers of fat will help them regulate their body temperature. Baby still doesn't have enough fat deposits beneath its skin to keep warm outside your womb. If born now the baby would probably be put in an incubator, about 90% of babies born this week survive.

Lungs are almost fully developed. Your baby's reflexes are coordinated, they turn their head, grasp firmly, and respond to sounds, light and touch. You should still feel movement every day. He or she is about 5 and a half pounds and growing fast, it is getting short of space in the womb.

Your uterus has become more cramped, your baby's kicks and other movements less forceful. You may want to check on your baby's movements from time to time and do a kick count.

Baby may push up against your ribs and make you a little breathless. Soon your baby's position changes to prepare itself for labor and delivery. The baby drops down in your pelvis and you will be able to breathe easily again.

Week 34

WEEK 34

How far along? 34 Weeks, 4 days
Total weight gain: 22lbs. gained

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy :)
Looking forward to: next doc appt, I have so many questions. And baby's arrival, last week 3 babies were born that I know of. Crazy to think that will soon be Mia :)

From baby2see.com:

Week Thirty Four: Rapid growth continues

You are 34 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 32 weeks)
  • Your baby now is approximately 18 inches long and weighs about 5.25 pounds.
  • Baby is now 46cm crown to heel and the weight is 2400 grams.
  • Your child has now an excellent chance of survival outside the womb.
  • Fat accumulations plumps up the arms and legs this week.
  • Eyes opened when awake and closed when sleeping.
  • The fingernails are now completely formed.

Even babies born earlier than this could survive outside the womb with hospital support although the risk of complications would be high. Your baby may have already turned to a head down position in preparation for birth. The skull bones are still pretty flexible and not completely joined to help to ease exit out of the narrow birth canal. Fat accumulations plumps up the arms and legs this week. The baby's skin is also becoming less wrinkled. Braxton Hicks contractions may be getting more numerous and stronger. Thanks to antibodies crossing the placenta the baby is developing immunities to mild infections.

Week Thirty Three: Lanugo is disappearing

You are 33 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 31 weeks)
  • The baby inside you is now about 4.4 pounds (2 kg) and around 17.5 inches (44cm) in length.
  • The diameter of the head is about 8.5cm.
  • The baby fuzz, lanugo, is disappearing.
  • Your baby drinks about a pint of amniotic fluid a day.
  • You may gain a pound a week (500g) for the rest of your pregnancy.
  • Half of your weight gain will go directly to your baby.
The baby is using it's lungs to practice breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid. Your baby is drinking about a pint of amniotic fluid a day now and urinating the same amount. The early baby fuzz, lanugo, is disappearing now and being replaced by actual hair. The nails of your baby are now long enough to reach to the tip of the fingers or beyond and may need trimming as soon as they are born. They may scratch their face even before birth.

You may gain a pound a week for the rest of your pregnancy. Do not stop eating or start skipping meals as your weight increases. Both you and your baby need the calories and nutrition you receive from a healthy diet.

By measuring my belly, doctor said I should do an ultrasound because I'm measuring small (26 cm last week). baby2see.com

Week Thirty Two: Reproductive development continues

You are 32 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 30 weeks)
  • The baby is 17 inches (43cm) long and weighs 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms).
  • The diameter of the head is almost 4 inches (10cm).
  • Under the skin the fat layer is getting thicker.
  • The toenails and fingernails are completely formed.
  • In boys, the testicles will be descending from the groin down into his scrotum.
During this time the baby sleeps most of the day. The uterus is getting to be a small space for the baby to move about, so you may have noticed a decrease in your baby's movements. The baby is still trying to move frequently but it just does not have enough room. The baby will turn its head from side to side and move its hands.

As space in your uterus becomes more cramped, your baby's kicks and other movements may seem less forceful. You may want to check on your baby's movements from time to time and do a kick count.

If your baby is a boy, his testicles are moving from their location near the kidneys through the groin on their way into the scrotum. If your baby is a girl, her clitoris is now relatively prominent.

The baby will now weigh about 4 pounds (1.8 kg). Half of your weight gain now will go directly to baby. If you are carrying twins or more, their weight increase will be slower than singletons because of the lack of room in the uterus.

Are you waddling? This is because the ligaments in your pelvis have softened, allowing your hips to spread in preparation for birth. If you find that the increased weight of your breasts is uncomfortable when sleeping try wearing a soft but supportive bra to bed.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy girl!

From baby2see.com

Week Thirty One: Baby detects light

You are 31 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 29 weeks)
  • Baby weighs 3.5 pounds and measures 16.5 inches from the head to heel.
  • Baby's weight is about 1.6 kg and length around 42cm.
  • The eyes have now completely opened and are responding to light and darkness.
  • A loud noise near you may cause your little one to jump.
Your baby continues to grow. Baby's lungs and digestive tract are very near to being mature. Now that almost all of the major organs are functioning, growth will focus on maturing those organs and growing muscle mass and fat stores. Baby's weight gain will exceed its growth in length from now on. He or she should more than double their weight again between now and birth. It weighs about 3.5 pounds (1.6kg), and crown to rump length is 11 inches (28cm). Its total length is 16.5 inches (42cm).

A loud noise near you may cause your little one to jump. Baby may move to the rhythm of music. Studies with heart rates show that they may also prefer some types of music to others at this stage. The eyes can now completely open and the irises are now responsive to light, dilating and contracting as needed.

You will probably find that though you have been feeling pretty energetic throughout your second trimester, you are beginning to slow down now. Pay attention to your body's signals and rest when you need to. Exercise is still an important activity for you, even though it gets harder as you get larger and heavier. Try swimming, stretching and walking all excellent options for pregnant women.

WEEK 30

Baby weighs 3 pounds...can you tell she's grown??!

How far along? 30 Weeks, 5 days
Total weight gain: 15, I weighed at 147 at docs office yesterday
Maternity clothes? still maternity jeans and leggings, some maternity shirts, mostly my own clothes. But my shirts sure are stretching lol
Stretch marks? not on the tummy
Sleep: it takes a while for me to fall asleep because of so much there is to do the next day! I have been trying to sleep early but it doesn't always happen, if I do, I end up thinking for bout 30-40 mins. Plus still waking up to go to the bathroom....I think I'm being prepared to wake up 3-4 times a night. But for now I enjoy throwing myself right back to bed :) Won't be like that in about 10 weeks...eek! :D
Best moment this week: Going to childbirth classes. Got so much information! It actually opened our eyes that the time is almost here and that we needed to make some big decisions. We are now doing the birth here so Wyatt can be with us the whole time and so we stress less with so many transitions. We also decided to change our doctor and hospital. Seeing her next week. We also finally found an apartment to move to! We got a great deal in a neat place and we are upgrading to 2 bed and 2 bath! We are super happy about it because we ain't braking the bank (we thought we would end up paying a lot more) and even though it's not as cheap as we would like, there are perks: its bigger! baby girl will sleep with us at first but we will  have a room for her and for her stuff, we also are on the first floor as oppose to the third one, YEAY!, and we are closer to food marts and such, Wyatt is closer to work (for me it'll prob be just another 5-10 mins drive to work) and we have friends that live in the same complex :) We also will keep having a washer and dryer, and now have a bigger patio, bigger closets, and the complex has pool and gym and it's really pretty!

Miss Anything? Energy, so tired! We are actaully to be moving the weekend Sept 8-10th and I have boxes all over the apt and I just sit there sometimes and pretend it's all going to magically pack tself lol. Also breathing. I am out of breath all the time!
Movement: Lots! And I love it, she has days where she just chills. I enjoy when Wyatt comes home and we can tell she knows because she says hi! So cute :) She already loves us I can feel it!
Food cravings: fruits and sweets (I don't think this is going to change) lol
Anything making you queasy or sick: some meats, I have to make sure I don't see any blood or ..it's just not good. But other than that...just gotta make sure I eat otherwise if I'm too hungry I'll get nauseous.
Gender: Girl

Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: I bump into stuff more than usual, my balance isn't the best already but it's getting worse lol. Also, she takes my breath away- literally. And back pain...and it's only going to get worse.
Belly Button in or out? in but flatter
Wedding rings on or off? on - fitting perfectly in the morning and a little loose during the day

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy and excited, sometimes anxious and nervous, but we are two happy girls :)
Looking forward to: maternity pics Saturday, packing (I know, but I actually do like to pack because I know we will be in a new apt soon!) then Baby Shower in SoCal the following weekend! Wooohoooo!!!!!!! Of course, moving :) AND starting my 8th month next week!

From baby2see.com:

Week Thirty: Baby puts on pounds

You are 30 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 28 weeks)
  • Baby measurements are 16 inches and weighs about 3 pounds.
  • Length is 40cm and your baby's weight is 1.4 kilograms.
  • The head is almost 3.5 inches (8cm) in diameter.
  • The feet are nearly 2.5 inches (6cm) long.
  • The wrinkled skin is becoming smoother now.
  • In boys, the testicles have moved down to the groin.
  • The baby controls its own body temperature.

For several months, the umbilical cord has been the baby's lifeline to the mother. Nourishment is transferred from the mothers blood, through the placenta, and into the umbilical cord to the fetus. Their bone marrow is now responsible for red cell production. These red blood cells will continue to service your child's body by transporting oxygen and removing the wastes. Your baby begins storing iron, calcium and phosphorus.

The fetus now weighs about 3 pounds (1.4kg). He or she will gain about half a pound a week until week 38. Baby is getting fatter and beginning to control its own body temperature. Baby continues to put on fat stores and the major weight gains will occur in the coming weeks. Eyebrows and eyelashes are fully developed, and hair on the head is getting thicker. Head and body are now proportioned like a newborn.

Hands are now fully formed and fingernails are growing. Can be seen on ultrasound scans grasping their other hand or feet, this is helping with nerve development. Eyelids are opening and closing, and will often make rapid eye movements - a sign they could be dreaming.

You may be starting to experience some swelling of your ankles and legs. If you have not experienced any swelling yet, it is highly probable that you will, as approximately 40 to 75 percent of women will experience mild swelling related to pregnancy.

Your uterus is now about 4 inches (10cm) above your bellybutton. It may feel like you are running out of room as your uterus grows up under your ribs. However, your fetus, placenta and uterus will continue to get larger, you still have 10 weeks to go. The average weight gain during pregnancy is 25 to 35 pounds (11.5 to 16kg). About half of this weight is concentrated in the growth of the uterus, the placenta, the baby and in the volume of amniotic fluid. At this point, you should be gaining about a pound (500 grams) a week.
